Bill Clinton

The following viewpoint is excerpted from remarks made by Bill Clinton at the May 5, 1995, commencement ceremony at Michigan State University. In his speech, Clinton asserts that violence against the government, such as the bombing in Oklahoma City, is not justified. Militia members and others who view government and its employees as a threat to their freedom are misguided, he asserts. He contends that while Americans have the right to disagree with the government and to work within the law to change government policies, violent protest is not acceptable.
