Epilogue: Analyzing the Evidence

Every year hundreds of mysterious monster sightings occur around the world. Here is a small sampling of the strange creatures reported recently: In January 2002 huge black creatures, seven feet long and three feet wide, were repeatedly sighted in the Tikis River in the Philippines; in September 2002 huge maned cats, estimated to weigh between six hundred and eight hundred pounds, were reported in Arkansas and Tennessee; in April 2003 a bizarre catlike animal was caught exsanguinating (draining the blood of) chickens in Argentina; in May 2003 a half—man, half—horse creature was said to be terrorizing the people of Maru, Nigeria; also in May, a Vermont woman reportedly saw Memphre, a creature similar to a plesiosaur that supposedly lives in Lake Memphremagog, located near Newport City, Vermont. The question is, how many of these sightings are actually of mysterious monsters and how many of them can be explained in other ways.
