Assimilation Is a Greater Problem Than Anti- Semitism for American Jews

Contrary to the beliefs of many Jews, anti-Semitism is no longer a problem in America; the greater danger for American Jews is assimilation. Many Jews are too willing to emphasize their history of persecution as a way to retain their Jewish identity. Since anti- Semitism and its attendant oppression have vanished from most segments of society, this focus is no longer relevant. However, Jewish life is at risk of disappearing because of high intermarriage rates and low birth rates. American Jews need to move toward a more positive Jewish state of mind in order to counter the effects of assimilation.
