Animal models have failed to provide useful information concerning the contracting and spread of cancer in humans. In fact, a reliance on animal models may blind some researchers to the significant differences between the way in which cancer develops and travels in humans and animals. Regardless, cancer is best fought through prevention rather than after-the-fact treatments. Money spent on animal-related cancer research could better be spent on prevention programs that stress diet and lifestyle changes.

Research to find a cure for cancer is a lucrative business. North American budget for the "war against cancer" exceeded $1 billion annually in the mid-1990s and continues to grow. A.....
