Democratic Nations Will Govern World Affairs

Harlan Cleveland is the president of the World Academy of Art and Science in Vienna, Virginia, a former U.S. assistant secretary of state, and the author of Birth of a New World: An Open Moment for International Leadership. In the following viewpoint, Cleveland argues that a “club of democracies” can cooperate to maintain world peace in the “new world disorder.” Cleveland maintains that over the next generation these democratic nations will consult on decisions concerning U.N. affairs, peacekeeping, economic growth, and social development.
