Wilhelm Eduard Weber
1804-1891
German physicist who invented the electrodynamometer and other devices for measuring electrical and magnetic effects.
Weber directed the Göttingen astronomical observatory and was a professor of physics at Leipzig and Göttingen University. He conducted important research in electricity and magnetism with Johann Gauss, developed many useful devices for experimental physics, and wrote an important book on waves with his brother, Ernst Weber, a well-known physiologist and professor of anatomy.
