Tao Yue

Semi-legendary Chinese inventor of porcelain. It is said that Tao Yue was born near the Yangtze River, whose "white clay" (kaolin) he added to other varieties of clay in order to develop porcelain. In the Chinese capital at Ch'ang-an or Xian, he sold the resulting creation as "artificial jade."
