1868-1908

Canadian-born physician whose ardent Christian faith led her to exploration and missionary work. In 1898 during a missionary expedition deep into the land of Tibet, she lost her child and husband. In danger herself, she embarked on a two-month hazardous journey over mountain passes and across river torrents to reach safety in China. Returning to America in 1899, Rijnhart vividly related her Asian experience in an acclaimed book entitled With the Tibetans in Tent and Temple (1901).
