Sir Archibald Vivian Hill
1886-1977
English physiologist who received the 1922 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, along with German biochemist Otto Fritz Meyerhof, for research on the physiology of muscles.
Hill studied mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge, but later shifted his interest to the study of physiology. In 1909 he began investigating the physiology of muscles, specifically the changes in heat associated with muscle function.
