Saint Luke

fl. first century A.D.

Syrian physician and Christian evangelist who is one of the only physicians mentioned in the Bible.

Luke was converted to Christianity after meeting Saint Paul. Subsequently, in addition to traveling with Paul, he made a number of missionary trips on his own. A Greek, not a Jew, he was born in Antioch, capital of Syria. He is regarded as the author of the Acts of the Apostles and the third Gospel.
