American researcher who with Kay Davies found the first genetic marker indicating the likelihood of developing Duchenne muscular dystrophy. As one of the first genetic markers found, this opened the possibility of diagnosing the disease early as well as the hope of finding a cure for the ailment. It also opened a host of ethical questions affecting the medical and insurance industries as well as those who, having a genetic marker, may not have developed the disease yet.
