Japan Takes Control of Korea
In 1905 Japan made Korea a protectorate leading to its full annexation in 1910. The following declaration by the Japanese government of 22 November 1905 sets forth Japan's rationale for colonizing Korea.
The relations of propinquity have made it necessary for Japan to take and exercise, for reasons closely connected with her own safety and repose, a paramount interest and influence in the political and military affairs of Korea.
