Iraq—History
The modern nation of Iraq, established in 1932, is relatively young. But the land and its people have a history that dates back to the dawn of human civilization. Historians usually use the Greek term "Mesopotamia" to refer to the land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in ancient times. It was not until the late sixth or early seventh century that the Arabs came to refer to this land as "Iraq."
