Iraq—Education System
Historically, Iraq's educational system was the product of a mostly urban-based community of religious scholars dedicated to instilling in its adherents the principles of the Qurʾan, and the sunna (Way) of the Prophet Muhammad. Similarly, education in the shrine cities of the Shiʿa sect of Islam meant passing on the corpus of law and devotional practices of the Shiʿite imams to the students of the religious schools.
