Georg Purbach Summary

Georg Von Peuerbach

1423-1461

Austrian astronomer and mathematician who studied comets and eclipses, and whose student was the noted German astronomer Regiomontanus (1436-1476).

In 1456 he observed what came to be known as Halley's comet, and a year later he and Regiomontanus observed a lunar eclipse from a site near Vienna. Peuerbach developed several astronomical instruments, as well as a large star globe.
