Gaspard Bauhin

1560-1624

Danish physiologist and botanist who described more than 6,000 medicinal plants.

Encouraging both individual and collaborative efforts, he convinced the universities to work together to share discoveries in their botanical gardens. He wrote a large book called Pinax theatri botani, published in 1627. He evoked new interest in plants as the range of remedies increased and assisted in the renewed interest in classical drugs.
