Feodor Felix Konrad Lynen

1911-1979

German biochemist who specialized in the study of lipid metabolism.

He shared the 1964 Nobel Prize with Konrad Bloch for discoveries concerning the mechanism and regulation of cholesterol and fatty acid metabolism. Lynen carried out research on the enzymatic steps of the fatty acid cycle, the role of biotin in lipid metabolism, fermentation, biological phosphorylation and oxidation, and the regulatory mechanisms of metabolic pathways. His work contributed to studies of the relationship between cholesterol and disease.
