Chen Ning Yang

1922-

Chinese-American physicist who, with Tsung Dao Lee, showed that parity need not always be conserved in some nuclear reactions.

For this, he was awarded the 1957 Nobel Prize in physics. Yang's primary interests in physics, aside from symmetry principles, include studies in statistical mechanics and thermodynamics. Yang is currently a professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies, where he has been a professor since 1955.
