what effect does sunlight have on plants growth?

For most plants, sunlight is everything. With the sun the plant is able to drive all of its processes from making food to eliminating wastes, to replicating itself. Therefore, for many plants receiving the optimal amount of sunlight is crucial to achieve it's best growth.
