Parallel evolution is a similar concept to convergent evolution. Convergent evolution is when unrelated species evolve into similar forms and parallel evolution is when closely related species evolve into similar forms. However the difference between parallel and convergent evolution is quite subjective because all species are related, even if it is very distantly.
