How does a rocket lift off the ground?

This boils down to one of Newton's laws; the second one to be exact. It states that the acceleration of a body is parallel and directly proportional to the net force F actiong on the body, is in the direction of the net force, and is inversely proportional to the mass (m) of the body. F=ma
