To what extent can medical sociology explain rising levels of absenteeism as a result of work related illness?

What it can offer by way of explanation is that work related stress can lead to work related psychosomatic illnesses. When workers become depressed, angry, or experience continual negative emotional responses in relation to their work environment, then they begin to exhibit illnesses which translate to absenteeism.
