The electrical current pases through the car body easier than through a human, so most of it bypasses your body, and you are grounded by the rubber (insulating) tyres. So, yes it is safer.

Typically, lightning rarely hit vehicles with rubber tires due to the insulating quality of rubber. In that rare event that lightning hits a car, a human inside the car is further insulated by a number of materials lining the interior of the car, hence even separating any static charge from jumping to him/her. So, yes, it is quite safe to be in a car during a lightning storm. So much so that it would be recommended to remain in the car should you get stuck in a storm.
