Would Ethan Allen Hawley really have robbed the bank?

It seems that although the family pressure of his career as Marullo's grocery clerk is subliminal, the fact is that Ethan has taken this deeply personal and has plotted to rob the bank. He even knows how much he is going to take. I think his ego is shattered by the fact that he can't provide what his family is asking of him. He doesn't really seem to be all that motivated to excel past where he is as clerk and once the owner. I guess that took the wind out of his sails.

In my opinion, yes.... he would have robbed the bank if he hadn't been visited by immigration, and he hadn't learned about Marullo's deportation.
