Holmes was a crook and a fraud. None-the-less, his shady business dealings proved quite rewarding, allowing him to purchase undeveloped land across from the location of his pharmacy. The "castle" constructed on his behalf was intricately planned and contained vaults, secret rooms, and chutes (presumably laundry) that ran from the upper floors to the basement. Holme's castle was located on the corner of 63rd and Wallace.
