The Townshend Acts, introduced in the English Parliament by Chancellor of the Exchequer Charles Townshend in 1767, were a series of duties (taxes) to be placed on the colonies to be paid on imports. The items to be taxed included glass, lead, paints, paper and tea. The Acts were repealed in 1770, with the exception of one item..... tea.
