Before the automobile, a man could only go as far as his horse could.... that or travel on a train with limited lines and schedules. The automobile enabled man to go as far as he wanted to go, when he wanted to go, and where he wanted to go. This created a broad opportunity for travel that changed men's lives forever. This is known as the autonomy of travel.
