Who is Meiji the Great from Commodore Perry in the Land of the Shogun and what is their importance?

Meiji the Great was Emperor Komei's son. As a result of Perry's expedition and the Treaty of Kanagawa, Meiji decided to modernize Japan with the help of his allies.
