David Morgan is the Morgan family patriarch. After the death of his wife, he moves his family from Amherst to Borth, Wales, where he intends to study Welsh literature and teach at the local college. David's new job, however, proves to be overwhelming, and over time, he loses touch with his youngest children and neglects their needs.

When Jen arrives, David expects her take care of the household, leaving him free to lock himself in his office. As time passes, however, he slowly finds himself becoming more involved in his children's lives. David does not believe in magic, but he does support Peter when he is confronted by Dr. Owen. David trusts Peter to do the right thing, and in the end, it is the trust he has in his children that ultimately heals the Morgan family.
