The term 'generosity' in Canterbury Tales (Friar's Tale) has a double meaning in that the friar was quick to arrange marriages as long as there were something in it for him (of a monetary or material gain). Additionally, he would perform marriages without a care to the lawfulness of the marriage if the price were right.
