How do the female and male characters (including the narrator, Ponyboy) in this passage perceive each other and interact? From the first chapter of The Outsiders.

In the first chapter, we immediately see the interaction between Ponyboy and the Socs as an expected altercation. Ponyboy isn't safe walking home alone.... he needs to be worried. His interactions with his own gang, however, leaves one with a sense of family.

There are no female characters in Chapter One of the text.
