In the book, Whirligig, Brent must go around to various corners of the county making and creating whirligigs to atone for the wreck he caused that killed a fellow student. The book that he has is a book that shows how to make the whirligigs. Each one has its challenges and he learns something new about himself with each one. The book chronicles and parallels his journey. When he loses the book at the end, it shows that he has been able to use the lessons he's learned and apply it to life and to making unique whirligigs.
