Who is Julia from When You Reach Me and what is their importance?

Julia is the daughter of wealthy people who like to travel, and therefore Julia is well traveled. Julia likes to talk a lot about herself, causing some jealousy in those around her. This appears to be part of the reason Miranda dislikes Julia. Julia can also be difficult to get along with because she seems to think she is smarter than everyone else. As the novel progresses, however, Miranda comes to understand some of the reasons why Julia acts as she does.
