Who is Frikkie from Waiting for the Rain and what is their importance?

Frikkie is Oom Koos nephew. He loves the farm and hopes to one day run it for his uncle. He does not, however, like school and only attends becauses his uncle insists that he do so. Frikkie and Tengo are good friends, though, Frikkie seems oblivious to Tengo's unhappiness and is shocked and depressed when Tengo leaves to pursue an education.
