The Trailer becomes a metaphor and symbol for home. The trailer is a small, old trailer where Addie and Mommers come to live after their home is foreclosed on. The trailer is owned by Dwight and is the last place he has were Addie and her mother can stay. Everything in the trailer is small and cramped. Addie counts that it only takes six steps to get from the door to the kitchen, the kitchen to the living area, etc. Mommers hates the trailer, but Addie is happy there. After a while, it feels like home.
