Kate McTiernan meets Craig and Cross to reminisce about their experiences in North Carolina. The two agents met her when she escaped from the Casanova killer, a serial killer they helped to track down. She counts both men as friends, crediting them with saving her life, as well as catching the man who tried to kill her.

Kate is Craig's last intended victim. He is attracted to her, and thus, he becomes possessive. Cross sets himself up as a trap at McTiernan's home in Nag's Head, where the Mastermind is apprehended.
