Shay from Uglies is a freind of Tally's and leaves a week before her surgery to find and live with the Smoke. she leaves Tally a map. Tally finds the smoke later with that map and leads the Spec Circs to the Smoke and they destroy it. Shay automatically blames Tally yet has no proof. She eventually is captured and turned pretty.
