What is the goal of the protagonists in "Trifles"?

From the action and dialogue, we can infer the women's goal is to make sense of what happened to Minnie and protect her. If you look at the story closely, remembering the initial accusations against Minnie, and your initial reaction that she must be guilty has likely done a ninety degree turn. When we first hear about Minnie, we might see her as the antagonist, but as the story moves on, we come to see her husband as the villain, and possibly, we might even believe he got what he deserved.
