The exposition explains why the characters are present at the Wright home, it supplies the setting, introduces the characters, including Mrs. and Mr. Wright, who never physically appear on the set. The exposition takes up about the first 1/3 of the play, as the women look to collect some of Minnie's belongings, and the men attempt to discover a motive for the event.
