In Book IX, Alcibiades' horse accident incapacitates him, which is symbolic of the way in which, he has been rendered largely irrelevant to his own countrymen, as well as his enemies. His eventual recovery is also a symbol.... a symbol of the way he still lays on the minds his enemies..... a symbol of ever-looming danger.
