What is the author's tone in Three Men in a Boat: To Say Nothing of the Dog by Jerome K. Jerome?

J's tone is really dry and conservative. It is this tone that carries much of the weight of the humour. J's "matter-of-fact" descriptions or "travelogue" are quite entertaining considering the foibles they get into.
