As a missionary, Mr. Brown knows the advantages to introducing his faith a little at a time. He waits for the villagers to accept his presence, takes the time to learn about the villager's beliefs, and does not push his own beliefs down their throats. Brown respects the beliefs of the villagers and exposes to them to his own. This approach eliminates much of the hostility he would have faced otherwise.
