Things Fall Apart

Okonkwo's father is sometimes held responsible for his own action, while at other times he is referred to as a "victim" of evil fortune.Do you think Okonkwo and Achebe believes its true?

Where in the book would that be?

I think Okonkwo believes that it is his father's laziness and poor work ethic that lead to his troubles, not luck or lack thereof. Given Okonkwo's firm adherance to masculine ideals of strength, his judgment of his father is probably somewhat misguided. I think Achebe would probably fall somewhere in the middle, believing Okonkwo's father to be unsuccessful because of bad luck, but also because he lacks a strong work ethic.
