Why does Mole light out of his burrow at the beginning of the novel?

This man arrives at the estate and has many instruments of war/weapons. He also wears a cape made of scalps and is involved in the sexual assault of Beata. He is later killed.

Mole leaves his burrow at the beginning of the novel because he is tired and bored of his daily routine. He is tired of cleaning and caring for his burrow. He wants to see new places and experience new things, as well as to meet and make new friends.
