Who is Bernard from The Waves and what is their importance?

Bernard is the main character in Woolf's, The Waves. He is described as observant, curious, and secure. Bernard does not, however, embrace tradition or ceremony, something that is ironic in view of the fact that he is the first to get married and have a family.
