What is the main conflict in The Wanderer by Sharon Creech?

The main conflict in the novel, The Wanderer, is centered around Sophie's to fit in with the crew on her journey, as well as to face her fear of the ocean. Over the course of the novel, the ship faces a dangerous storm, in which, Sophie is forced to face her largest fear - a reoccurring nightmare she has of a giant black wave coming to consume her.
