Religion and rejection of religion are also themes in the story. Rejecting principles and traditions is part of growing up and the confusion that ensues is not without consequences. However, the early 1970s saw an explosion of such rejections happening everywhere and in every part of day-to-day life. Though the suburban community is isolated from the outside world and feeds on the illusion of being self sufficient, cracks are starting to appear on the wall built between reality and their manufactures happiness.
