Related to the power of the unconscious mind is the idea of the mind as a thing that develops. The traditional psychological view, a view that many still hold, is that the mind is basically fully formed in childhood and only becomes more and more advanced as one ages. Freud argues, however, that the mind is made up of several structures that grow at different rates and in different stages.
