The novel's main conflict in Macy's inner turmoil as she struggles to come to terms with her father's death. Though he passed away two years earlier, Macy spends her days hiding her grief and finds herself unable to move on. Over the course of the novel, Macy will find her way and even begin to embrace life again, as she makes new friends and broadens her horizons.
