I have to write a 300-word essay in which i am to use 2-3 quotes from Tim O'Brien's short story, "The Things They Carried" to portray the reality of war. My essay must be built primarily around the quotes from O'Brien's story, however i couldnt find any quotes in this short story. What qoutes are in The things they carried byTim O'Brien

I think you misunderstand the assignment about building your essay around quotes from the story. You shouldn't be looking for passages that are already quoted. Instead, whatever you select to copy, becomes a "quote" because YOU are quoting it. Therefore, my guess is that the assignment was to select and QUOTE some relevant and vivid passages and explain how they (the parts you quoted) serve to portray the reality of war.

Some good quotes to use would be: "He lay face-up in the center of the trail, a slim, dead, almost dainty young man. He had bony legs, a narrow waist, long shapely fingers. His chest was sunken and poorly muscled -- a scholar, maybe. His wrists were the wrists of a child."
